How to Use the V2 Injectable Pen: Cartridge Guide
The V2 injectable pen is a reusable delivery device designed for laboratory research with 3 ml pen cartridges. This guide covers loading a cartridge, attaching a needle, priming, and dispensing — plus care and storage.
For laboratory research use only. This guide is educational content for researchers handling research equipment — not instructions for human use.
What You’ll Need
- V2 injectable pen — available in Slim, Metallic, and Matte models (each includes 1 free cartridge).
- V2 3 ml cartridges — replacement cartridges for continued research use.
- Pen needles — sterile, single-use. Pen needles, 100 count.
- Alcohol prep pads — for the cartridge septum before each use.
Need everything at once? The V2 Pen Kit bundle includes the pen, a cartridge, bacteriostatic water, and 100 pen needles in one package.
Step 1: Load the Cartridge
- Unscrew the pen body to separate the cartridge holder from the dose mechanism.
- Check the 3 ml cartridge: the septum (rubber seal) should be intact and the liquid inside clear, with no particles.
- Slide the cartridge into the holder, septum-end first (the narrow metal-capped end goes toward the needle end of the pen).
- Screw the pen body back together firmly — but don’t overtighten.
Step 2: Attach a Pen Needle
- Peel the paper tab off a new sterile pen needle.
- Screw the needle straight onto the threaded tip of the cartridge holder until snug.
- Pull off the outer needle cap (save it — you’ll need it later) and then the inner cap to expose the needle.
- Use a fresh needle every time. Never reuse pen needles — reuse dulls the tip and risks contamination.
Step 3: Prime the Pen
Priming removes air from the cartridge and confirms the pen is dispensing correctly. Do this whenever you load a new cartridge:
- Hold the pen with the needle pointing up.
- Dial a small priming amount on the dose selector.
- Press the dose button fully. You should see a drop of liquid at the needle tip.
- If no drop appears, repeat once. If it still doesn’t appear, check that the cartridge is seated correctly and the needle is properly attached.
Step 4: Dial and Dispense
- Turn the dose selector to the amount your research protocol calls for. The pen clicks as you dial — count carefully.
- Insert the needle, then press the dose button slowly and fully until the dial returns to zero.
- Keep the button pressed for a slow count of 5–10 seconds to ensure the full volume is delivered.
- Withdraw the needle.
After Each Use
- Remove the needle immediately. Unscrew it using the saved outer cap (scoop the cap onto the needle without touching it), then dispose of the needle in a proper sharps container. Never leave a needle on the pen between uses — it can leak or let air in.
- Wipe the cartridge septum with an alcohol pad before the next use.
- Store the pen with the cap on, at the temperature your protocol specifies (generally refrigerated for reconstituted peptides).
Care, Troubleshooting & Storage
- Cleaning: wipe the outside of the pen with a damp cloth. Never submerge the pen or get liquid inside the dose mechanism.
- Dose dial won’t turn? The cartridge may be empty — check the viewing window. Replace with a fresh 3 ml cartridge.
- Leaking? Usually a needle left attached between uses, or a cross-threaded needle. Remove, discard the needle, and reattach a fresh one straight.
- Cartridges are single-fill consumables — when one is empty, load a new one. The pen body itself is reusable indefinitely with basic care.
V2 Pen Models
All three V2 models use the same 3 ml cartridges and pen needles — the difference is the body:
- V2 Slim — lightweight, available in White, Chrome, and Light Blue.
- V2 Metallic — metal finish, available in Blue, Teal, Black, Gold, and Red.
- V2 Matte — matte finish, available in 10 colours.
